Symbols of the Kosice self-governing region
Symbols of the Kosice self-governing regions are coat of arms, flag and
seal.
Heraldical description of coat of arms:
Quarted
shield.
On first divided field above in red two silver beams, down in blue
silver standing flying up on the right rotated bird in gold armament.
On the
second field in red gold lion with bifurcated tail and in silver armament.
On
the third divided field above in gold from the line of division growing up red
vertically erected bunch on green with two leaves stalk, down three times
divided silver-red field.
On the fourth field in blue from the down border
growing silver castle with battlement ended tower and with open castle gate in
colour of the field.
Region is spreading on the parts of the areas of
historical comitates, seats and zhupas of: Abov, Turnya, Spis, Zemplin, Uh and
Gemer.
On the upper part of the divided first field is located coat of
arms taken over from Abov, in the down part is Turnya´s coat of arms. On the
second field is taken over heraldical symbol from first quarter of Spis coat of
arms. On the upper part of divided third field is taken over figure appearing on
the shield and becoming from the Zemplin coat of arms. On the down part is taken
over down part of Uh coat of arms. On the fourth field is taken over figure from
Gemer coat of arms.
All above mentioned coat of arms were awarded by
sovereigns in the second half of the 16 century on the basis of Ferdinand´s
edict from the year 1550.
