The First Slovak Nationwide Internet Referendum opened in Kosice

As the only project partner representing the acceding countries, Kosice self-governing region (KSR) participates in an IST (Information Society Technology) research and development project which is funded by European Commission, aiming to design, implement and validate an Internet based electronic voting system. The main objective of the referendum covers testing of the system functionality under real conditions as well as its usability under typical realistic scenarios and public acceptance.

Even though the referendum can be considered as a public trial of the eVote system, organizers expect valuable results in regards to the information society support. In particular, electronic voting ballot consists of three questions by answering which voters may help in pursuing of informatization of the Slovak society.

The Slovak voters may participate in this event and cast their votes electronically until 12th March 2004. To do so please visit a web site www.evote.sk and register first. Those registered will be sent their unique user credentials allowing them to duly complete voting procedure that usually lasts not more than 5 minutes. As of today, there have been registered over 1500 Slovaks from all over the world.
