Kosice Airport launches new flights to London, Dublin, Prague and Bratislava

Friday | Friday, September 14, 2007

On October 30, 2007 Kosice Airport introduces new Boeing 737-700 flights to and from various European destinations. It will fly passengers to London and Dublin three times a week, seven times a week to Prague, and 22 times a week to Bratislava. Letisko Kosice - Airport Kosice, a.s. expects an increase in passengers by 250 thousands in one year after introducing new airlines.

Introduction of new flights resulted from negotiations of SkyEurope carrier, with the support of President of Kosice Self-governing Region Zdenko Trebula and Mayor of the City of Kosice Frantisek Knapik. The whole region of Eastern Slovakia can benefit from this opportunity to use airlines. Michael Hoeferer, General Manager of Kosice Airport suggests: “SkyEurope based in Bratislava and Vienna Airports, launched new flights from Vienna to 16 European destinations in March and achieved excellent increase of passengers. We are pleased to extend flights also from Kosice”. Vienna Airport is part of Consortium which owns 66 percent of Kosice Airport.

All those who travel for work and tourism and visitors to Prague, Bratislava, London and Dublin will profit from the new project. Slovak communities living in those destinations will benefit from improved connections that give them a better chance to travel and see their relatives in Eastern Slovakia.

“We feel importance of developing Kosice Airport very strongly also in regard to progress of the whole region. It helps us to partly substitute missing motorway connection with Europe. Cooperation with our partners from Hungarian Region of Borsod – Abauj – Zemplen also leads to use of this international airport by the whole north-east Hungary,” Zdenko Trebula said.

Kosice Self-governing region and the City of Kosice will contribute to this project through increasing number of bus services between the airport and through newly opened city services. KORID Project of Regional Integrated Transport also counts on connection with Airport through regional tram service.
