Mr. Michal Ilko, Vice-president of the Kosice Self-governing Region, received today delegation of Board of Directors of European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, which started its three days´ stay in East Slovakia.
Representatives of EBRD regularly visit regions, in which EBRD co-finances development activities, to get information about the environment, possibilities and other characteristics of the region and projects, which could be supported by EBRD. They are also interested in the results of the projects, financially supported by the Bank.
Vice-president of KSR informed guests about competencies of regional self-government and the way of their financing. Mr. Peter Tapak, Head of Department of Regional Development, informed delegation about economic potential of the Kosice region and main characteristics of the Economic and Social Development Programme of KSR. Representatives of EBRD were interested in experience of KSR in using European Funds, initiatives of Kosice region to attract investors and programmes with the goal to help Roma community.
The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development was established in 1991 when communism was crumbling in central and eastern Europe and ex-soviet countries needed support to nurture a new private sector in a democratic environment. Today the EBRD uses the tools of investment to help build market economies and democracies in 27 countries from central Europe to central Asia.
