President of South Bohemia Region Mr. Jan Zahradnik visited the Kosice Region

Thursday | Thursday, October 06, 2005

President of South Bohemia Region Mr. Jan Zahradnik arrived to Kosice Region for a two-days working visit. Kosice Region and South Bohemia Region became partner regions after signing the cooperation memorandum in March 2004. Mr. Rudolf Bauer, President of the Kosice Self-governing Region (KSR), welcomed the guest at the premises of the Office of KSR.

During the seminar on regional development, held on 4 October 2005, both Presidents exchanged their experience in the field of using the EU funds, development activities, contribution of Regional Operational Programme and decentralization process of public administration in both countries. President Zahradnik was interested in information about Tourism Development Strategy of KSR, drafted by KSR and its French partners.

On the occasion of the official visit of President Zahradnik, KSR and South Bohemia Region prepared an information stand in the centre of the City of Kosice. Mr. Bauer and Mr. Zahradnik took the chance to inform citizens personally about activities, competences and tourism possibilities of their regions.

During the seminar on transport, held on 5 October 2005, Kosice Region and South Bohemia Region decided to initiate the updating of European Corridors Network, as both Presidents informed during the briefing. „We have decided to try to draft a proposal of updating the European Corridor Network, together with other regions, in the Committee of the Regions and to give higher priority to north-south corridors,“ said Rudolf Bauer. „It is not possible to develop the transport system towards the new members without solving the transport infrastructure and structural problems of current Member States,“ completed Jan Zahradnik. Both partners regions pursue the north-south highway connection, which would bring connection to Trans European highways and better transport connection with neighbouring states.
